Roguelikes and Python

I really want to start off properly in game development – but there’s many things I just can’t find information on how to do. Like game states, or map formats. What about camera scrolling?

The simple answer is there aren’t enough easy-to-follow tutorials about this sort of thing. There’s billions about how to make an opengl or DirectX window, but none about how to actually make A GAME.

So, I thought I’d try making a roguelike ~ after all, they are awesome and contain all the major things a simple game has: and way more besides, what with items and magic and stats and so on.
So I figured I’d write it in Python. Cross-platform, easy to use, and there’s a roguelike engine for it (libtcod).

Today’s Friday. I love Fridays – it’s the beginning of the weekend! Usually here on the weekend I like to chill out, play games, and eat things. Oh, and meet people. I’m going to my weekly youth gathering thing tonight too. I hope I make some more friends… I NEED TO MEET PEOPLE. I need to meet people because I feel really quite lonely. Like really. I need a hug.

However, I’m also having bacon! And eggs! Yes! A fry-up, on friday! It’s awesome.

Ahh. Thoughts of the Day.

I found a really neat webcomic called ‘Allan’. Puts me in mind of ThreePanelSoul (as it’s a sort of biographical comic) and has some pretty awesome abstract thoughts. Check it out at http://allancomic.com.

Oh, how I love expounding my thoughts and feelings. I feel very satisfied today – I’ve no reason to be. I’ve lost motivation for programming (and I get distracted far too easilyohlookabirdwheeee) so I need to have a desktop background that screams “NO, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP PROGRAMMING JUST YET – BACK TO WORK!” to help me remember to DO STUFF.

And yet ~ here I am, blogging and looking at webcomics. Baww.
Also, really neat thing for y’all Linux users: Mac4Lin. Skinning set for everything to make it look like Mac OSX Leopard. Really great stuff, it’s almost identical.

Hmm, I like beans. I’m not sure what it is about them, but they’re awesome.
